Cheryl M. Lesniak, 56 y.o. of Portland, Maine died peacefully in her sleep on February 10, 2019. Cheryl was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on October 13, 1962 and lived for 23 years at Shalom House in Portland where she managed her mental illness and was able to live independently. Cheryl was known for her soft-spoken and gentle manner. She loved spending time with her family especially on special holidays and always remembered birthdays and special events in people’s lives. Cheryl was artistic and took various art classes as a hobby. In the past few months, Cheryl was enjoying spending time at the YMCA, exercising and waiting for spring to come.
Cheryl leaves behind her large family: her mother, Rita Pariseau of Hampton, NH; her brothers, John and his wife, Patty, of Falmouth, ME; Joseph of Cumberland, ME; her sisters, especially her dear twin sister, Carol, of Portland; Christine and her husband, George Fox of Gorham, ME; Catherine and her husband, Bob Adelman, of St. Louis, MO; Sr. Mary Thomas of Manchester, NH; and her step-sister, Cyndi Pariseau, of Portsmouth, NH. Along with the immediate family are nieces, Krysia, Maria, and Anna; nephews, Joseph, Thomas, James, Max, JD, and John; and aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Cheryl was predeceased by her father, Frederick and her step-father, Phil Pariseau.
A funeral Mass celebrating Cheryl’s life was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Portland on February 21 with family and friends present. Donations in Cheryl’s name may be given to the Shalom House, 106 Gilman Street, Portland, ME 04102.
