Carol Corrigan Conway
Carol Corrigan Conway (known to all as “Cc”) died peacefully October 3, 2020 at Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough, Maine. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William S. Conway, her four children: Kevin [Claire], Kelly Frantzen [Douglas], Thomas [Eileen], and Jamey [Kellie Lynch], nine grandchildren: Caitlin, Conor, Kevin, Molly, Will, Christopher, Corey, Colin, Jess and one great grandchild, Aiden. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sheila Brooks, and many nieces and nephews. Cc was the oldest of three siblings and was predeceased by her brothers Dick and Thomas Corrigan, born to Thomas and Helen Corrigan.
Cc was born on April 13, 1930 in Glen Ridge, NJ and graduated from Skidmore College in 1952. She was a passionate and devoted mother to her four children. She was known to cheer loudly from the stands at every sporting event, in particular, all four kids recall hearing her resounding voice underwater at swim meets at Fayson Lakes. She was also the cheerleading coach for several years at John Jay High School. Her infectious spirit rallied a sisterhood amongst the girls, and her mentorship and unique flair were truly valued. Kelly’s friends would laugh as she cringed when her mother showed up at practice with yet another crazy hair color as she pulled into the parking lot in her orange VW Rabbit.
Cc not only had a strong sense of personal style, but her creative talent was very impressive. Her talents knew no bounds, whether it was jewelry making, knitting, quilting or sewing clothes and slipcovers. Her passion for painting returned later in life with the focus on birds...which will now adorn the walls of her children’s and grandchildren's homes.
For over a decade Cc co-managed a local consignment shop in Flemington, NJ, which raised thousands of dollars to support visiting home health services. She later co-owned a knit shop, Simply Knit, in Lambertville, NJ.
Cc was known to many who knew her dearly that she never said a bad word about anyone (with the exception being made for a particular political party and then the sparks really flew). She was passionate, caring and loving, but if you told her that she couldn’t do something her gorgeous green eyes could bore a hole right through you. Despite her diminished voice, which was her biggest obstacle, she made herself heard even during the final days of her life. Even the brief time at her last ER visit (of which there were too many) and the final chapter in a loving hospice, they all commented on what a hip, sassy and sweet lady she was.
According to her wishes there will be no service, but we hope that you will support the many healthcare workers during this stressful time in any way you choose. Cc had too many doctors, nurses and caregivers to count, and the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of them for their love and care for our “energizer bunny”.
