Stephen Bemis, 31, passed away unexpectedly at his home in South Portland. Stevie was born in Portland, Maine, and later moved with his family to East Rochester, New Hampshire. He attended Rochester schools, and South East New Hampshire Christian Academy in Berwick before the family returned to Portland.
Stevie most recently was employed by Big Apple Stores at the Washington Avenue location.
Stevie's passions were music and design. He wrote and produced electronic music from the time that he was a teenager, and he would DJ at events from time to time. He had recently started his own clothing design business, Pirate RX.
Stevie and his sister Emily were very close, despite the difference in their ages, they never had any kind of silly issues that siblings sometimes go through as kids. He was so happy to have a sister, probably because he'd been an only child for so long. He ran all the way home from school the day she was coming home, and his teacher said he was so excited about it all day, "My baby sister's coming home today!!!!". He was was so gentle and protective of her, and their bond stayed strong into their adulthood.
Stevie was trained in Reiki healing. He was a caring and accepting friend, and many of his friends have spoken about the ability Stevie had to talk to them and help them when they were experiencing difficult times in their lives.
Stevie enjoyed traveling, and made his way throughout the US with little more than a backpack on his back. On his most recent trip, he visited Texas and California. Making that trip and making it to the Pacific Ocean was something that was on his bucket list, and he made it happen. At home, he enjoyed riding around the streets of Portland on his longboard, and he was also a creative cook who could come up will all kinds of good meals.
Stevie is survived by his parents, Evelyn McGeough and Stephen Gordon, his sister Emily Gordon, his beloved partner Emma Robbins, and his aunt, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He was very much loved and losing him has been heartbreaking, he will be missed.
A time of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Coastal Cremation Services 471 Deering Avenue in Portland.
